Having just returned from my first trip to Thailand, with memories fresh in mind, I wanted to write a little travel guide for any first time visitors including some info that I wish I’d have had before my trip, and with some must-see recommendations, too.
Street Markets
Though I spent plenty of time sampling delicious local delicacies while travelling, including eating with the locals, as well as staying in some pretty upmarket hotels with exceptional restaurants; the best food you can find also seems to be the cheapest. I found myself a little wary at first sight of the many street vendors lining the busy roads of Bangkok, but once you try their dishes, there’s no going back.
Be sure to check out Chatuchak weekend market for an awesome street market with over 8000 stalls! These include food and drinks, ingredients, clothing, jewellery, crockery and much more all at incredible prices.
Palaces
The Grand Palace at the heart of Bangkok is among the most (if not, the most) visited tourist attractions on the planet, and an absolute must-see. If you’re in the area, also be sure to head round the corner to find the world’s largest reclining Buddha statue.
Waterfalls
Thailand is blessed with some of the most beautiful landscapes on the planet, and a personal favourite for me is their great wealth of waterfalls. These can be found in forests, mountains, and in many of the vast national parks of Thailand. If you get the opportunity, be sure to check out the seven levels of the Erawan national park waterfalls.
Islands
Finally, if you plan to travel to Thailand then you absolutely must visit some of their picturesque islands. Among the most popular locations for tourists are Koh Samui, Koh Samet, and Koh Phangan, but all of the larger islands have their distinctive charms and appeals.
